Building collaboration and accountability into the plan

A weekly work plan (WWP) is a detailed schedule that outlines the tasks to be completed within a specific week. It is designed to enhance collaboration, streamline operations, and foster a culture of accountability among all stakeholders involved in a construction project. At Donley’s, the WWP is created and reviewed during a weekly planning meeting, where team members discuss progress, identify potential issues, and align their efforts for the upcoming week. We lean heavily on the use of visuals so all team members can reference and update as necessary.

Core components of a weekly work plan

Our well-structured weekly work plans include the following core components:

  • Task Breakdown: Breaking the project down into manageable tasks
  • Responsible Parties: Individual and/or crew responsible for a task’s completion
  • Deadlines: Due dates to keep the project on track
  • Resources Required: Ensuring we have identified the proper labor, materials, equipment, and information required to complete each task
  • Constraints: Roadblocks that must be managed to prevent delay

As mentioned above, documenting the weekly work plan with visuals allows the team to reference and update the plan as necessary.  This drives team accountability as everybody understands each team member’s responsibilities and deadlines. We’ve found the best approach is to keep this simple.  Donley’s jobsite trailers are lined with whiteboards, charts, and sticky note schedules that outline our weekly work plan.
